Illinois man accused of murdering nephew with disabilities extradited from Michigan

WHEATON, Ill. (WGN) -- Bond has been set at $2 million for a Bloomingdale man who allegedly killed his nephew with physical and mental disabilities. Dominick Taylor, 50, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder after Damien Scott was found dead in a bedroom on April 26.
WBBM Radio reports investigators said it is alleged that in the early morning hours that day, Taylor, who was Damien's full-time caretaker for more than a decade, strangled Scott to death in his bedroom. It is further alleged that after killing Scott, who was blind and unable to walk, Taylor, without permission, withdrew cash from his wife's bank account, turned off his cellphone and purchased a one-way Amtrak train ticket from Chicago to East Lansing, Michigan without notifying his wife or family where he fled.
The Daily Herald reports, according to the DuPage County state's attorney's office, Taylor's wife discovered the lifeless body of Scott, 43, in his bedroom at the home they all shared. She immediately called the Bloomingdale Police Department, who initiated an investigation.
An autopsy revealed a deep-tissue hemorrhage around Scott's hyoid bone, which is consistent with manual strangulation, the Daily Herald reports. The exam also identified a healed fracture around the thyroid cartilage that was determined to be evidence of a prior strangulation, authorities said.
On April 28, Taylor was taken into custody in Michigan. He was extradited Saturday on a governor's warrant after initially refusing to be extradited back to DuPage County. Taylor's bond was set at $2 million.
