Alabama mom choked 2-year-old son, beat him with a brick, sheriff's office says

WALKER COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) -- Walker County Sheriff's deputies arrested a woman accused of choking and beating her 2-year-old son with a brick on Wednesday, June 3.
Walker County Sheriff's investigators determined the child's mother, 33-year-old Melody Mika Smith, assaulted the child with a brick and attempted to choke him. The alleged incident reportedly occurred in the Goodsprings area.
According to the Walker County Sheriff's Office, the child was rushed to the hospital by family members after the alleged assault. The child was then airlifted to Children's Hospital in Birmingham. He was listed in stable condition.
AL.com reports Smith told investigators that the devil made her do it, and that her 2-year-old son was the devil, according to Walker County Sheriff's Investigator Carl Carpenter.
Smith was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse. She was held on a $250,000 cash bond.
