McKEESPORT, Pa. (TCD) -- The 26-year-old pregnant daughter of a former NFL player was shot and killed Monday morning in Allegheny County.
The Allegheny County Police Department said in a tweet that they responded to a call at 10:32 a.m. regarding a female down on the 300 block of 25th Street in McKeesport. First responders found an adult woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified as Karli Short, the daughter of former Penn State linebacker and current Board of Trustees member Brandon Short.
Brandon Short wrote on Facebook Monday afternoon that his "heart is broken." He added, "I’ve lost the light of my life, my oldest daughter Karli passed away this morning in a senseless act of gun violence. The love she had was so pure and true. The world lost a beautiful soul. Thank you to everyone who has reached out and please keep our family in your prayers as we struggle through this difficult time."
According to WTAE-TV, Karli was five months pregnant and worked at a nursing home.
Brandon told WTAE, "The pain that I feel is indescribable. A parent shouldn't lose a child. That's not the way that the world is supposed to work."
