HENDERSON, Nev. (TCD) -- An 86-year-old man allegedly fatally shot his 79-year-old wife on the Fourth of July and told officers he "didn’t want to do it to her."
On Tuesday, July 4, at around 5:47 p.m., the Henderson Police and Fire Departments responded to a home on the 1000 block of Las Palmas Entrada to a report of a possible slaying. Inside the home, police found a 79-year-old woman suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, and she was transported to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Jerome Seligman called police and admitted he shot his wife, Susan Tobey. Officers reportedly recovered a handgun in a holster on the floor of the kitchen.
During an interview with police, Seligman said he used his .38 caliber to shoot his wife in the shoulder, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Seligman reportedly told officers, "I’m really depressed, I didn’t want to do it, but it got to a point," and "if you ever saw her room, you would know why I got that depressed."
Police took Seligman into custody and booked him into the Henderson Detention Center on a charge of open murder with a deadly weapon. He remains held without bail and is set to appear in court Monday, July 10.
According to police, this is the fifth homicide in Henderson this year.
Previously, in 2018, Seligman allegedly aimed a gun at another individual and was arrested, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. Seligman pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault, the case was dismissed, and he paid a fine of $1,000.
