MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (TCD) -- A 29-year-old man allegedly fatally shot his 30-year-old girlfriend before turning the gun on himself after an hours-long standoff with police.
On Tuesday, March 14, at approximately 11 a.m., the Murfreesboro Police Department responded to the Garrison Station Apartments on Fortress Boulevard after a family member called to report Eva Silver had been shot to death.
Police identified Silver's boyfriend, Tyler Gardner, as the suspect and said Silver was the victim of a "targeted shooting." According to Murfreesboro Police, following the shooting, Gardner went to his parents' home in Hendersonville, "where he threatened to kill himself."
Gardner barricaded himself inside his parents' home, and Hendersonville Police went to the residence on Candlewood Drive and attempted to negotiate with Gardner for "several hours." Hendersonville Police eventually made their way into the house and found Gardner deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Hendersonville and Murfreesboro Police are working together on the case.
