NEW YORK (TCD) -- A family of four, including two children under the age of 3, were found deceased inside an Upper West Side apartment this week with stab wounds.
NBC New York reports on Monday, Aug. 28, at approximately 3 p.m., New York Police Department officers went to a fourth-floor apartment on West 86th Street near Riverside Drive and West End Avenue to conduct a welfare check on a family. A relative tried to open the door into the apartment, but it was locked. He drilled holes into the door and then called police.
Police entered the apartment and found 41-year-old Edison Lopez, 40-year-old Alexandra Witek, 3-year-old Lucien Lopez, and 1-year-old Calvin Lopez deceased from apparent stab wounds. Investigators reportedly located three knives they believe were involved in the fatal stabbings, which police believe could be a murder-suicide. Edison Lopez and Alexandra Witek were married, and Lucien and Calvin were their children.
The New York Times reports Edison Lopez was the superintendent for the building. Witek was reportedly found inside the hallway and Lopez was in a bedroom with one of the knives near him on the bed.
According to WPIX-TV, Lopez reportedly accepted a job at a new building in Westchester County and was getting ready to move.
WPIX reports police do not think there are any additional suspects.
