3-year-old in San Diego accidentally shoots and kills 1-year-old sister

FALLBROOK, Calif. (TCD) -- A 3-year-old reportedly obtained access to an unsecured gun in their home and fatally shot a 1-year-old.
In a statement, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office said deputies received a call July 17 at 7:30 a.m. regarding a shooting at a home on the 1100 block of South Stagecoach Lane. The caller reportedly said the 3-year-old accidentally shot a 1-year-old girl after finding the handgun.
The 1-year-old sustained a head injury and she was transported to Palomar Hospital. She died an hour later at 8:30 a.m.
The Sheriff's Office said there are no other suspects or threats to the public. The San Diego County District Attorney's Office received information about the incident. The Medical Examiner's Office will also conduct an autopsy to determine the little girl's cause and manner of death.
