New Jersey man accused of fatally stabbing victim and leaving him in abandoned house in 2011 cold case

CAMDEN, N.J. (TCN) -- Authorities recently arrested and charged a 46-year-old man on suspicion of fatally stabbing another man in 2011 amid a dispute and leaving him at an abandoned home.
According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, on the night of Oct. 11, 2011, Camden City Police responded to an abandoned residence and found 42-year-old Brian Holden lying in the front room with multiple stab wounds. He was transported to a hospital and pronounced deceased.
Holden’s girlfriend reportedly told detectives she met with 46-year-old Kenyar Hill and "agreed to have sexual intercourse with him for money." Following the encounter, she allegedly got into an altercation with Hill, and he took his money back. The victim’s girlfriend reportedly claimed she "yelled for Holden," who confronted Hill. Hill then allegedly stabbed Holden multiple times during the dispute.
Holden’s girlfriend was transported to a hospital, and DNA evidence was collected during a sexual assault test. The New Jersey State Police laboratory later took in the evidence, but there were no matches from the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) at the time.
The lab later notified authorities in 2022 that they identified Hill as a "high stringency match" from the DNA profile. The following year, detectives performed a buccal swab on Hill and determined his DNA matched the swabs from the sexual assault examination.
The prosecutor’s office recently announced that Hill was charged with first-degree murder. He appeared in court on July 2 and will remain in custody pending trial.
