HOUSTON (TCD) -- Police are reportedly conducting a death investigation after a worker found what appeared to be human skeletal remains inside a barbecue pit in a backyard.
According to the Houston Police Department, on Tuesday, July 12, officers responded to 5207 Peach Creek Drive at approximately 3 p.m. after receiving a call about the discovery. Police said in a statement that it is "unknown how long the remains were inside the barbecue pit."
Houston Police Lt. Larry Crowson told KPRC-TV, "We had a male who was doing work behind a house, and he saw what he believed was a human skeleton inside a barbecue grill behind the house. He contacted police."
Crowson said investigators still do not know the race, sex, or any other pertinent information about the remains.
Sgt. William Dunn described the barbecue put as "not the typical barbecue pit you’d find at Lowe’s or Home Depot" because it was custom-made.
Police are reportedly speaking with the family that lives in the residence where the remains were found. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will conduct the autopsy to help identify the person and determined a manner of death.
