Boyfriend charged after missing woman's body is found in Georgia

BROOKHAVEN, Ga. (TCD) -- Police arrested a 43-year-old man this week in connection with the disappearance and death of his 48-year-old girlfriend.
According to the Brookhaven Police Department, Aimee Lafakis' family reported her missing Friday, Sept. 29, after she was last seen or heard from at approximately 2 a.m. that day.
Police interviewed Lafakis' friends and family as part of the investigation and later went to her boyfriend's home to speak with him. The boyfriend, Brandon Wineinger, allegedly made several statements to police that they later learned were false. He was arrested by Brookhaven Police on charges of giving false statements, tampering with evidence, kidnapping, and burglary.
On Sunday, Oct. 1, Brookhaven Police contacted the Gwinnett County Police Department regarding Lafakis' disappearance. Gwinnett County Police began investigating and discovered her body near Turkey Crossing and Harbins Circle in Dacula.
Wineinger faces charges of giving false statements, tampering with evidence, kidnapping, burglary, and concealing the death of another.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges are possible.
