PONTIAC, Mich. (TCD) --
An altercation in a waiting line at a popular haunted house attraction in the Detroit metro area ended in a fatal shooting early Sunday morning, and authorities are searching for the gunman, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said.
Paramedics and Oakland County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a shooting at 12:31 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Erebus Haunted House at 18 South Perry Street. A caller reported the victim was lying in the parking lot at the location.
Oakland County Sheriff's homicide detectives said the 29-year-old man and his girlfriend were waiting in line to get into the haunted house when words were exchanged with another man in line ahead of them. The sheriff's office said the suspect would not move ahead in the line, then accused the victim and his girlfriend of cutting ahead of him.
The victim reportedly told his girlfriend he was going to his vehicle, and he and the suspect went separately to the parking lot, and witnesses then reported hearing gunshots.
The victim was struck in his neck, chest and his side. He was hospitalized at McLaren Oakland Hospital, where the Detroit native was pronounced dead, the sheriff's office said.
One witness said a blue sedan drove away at high speed, and investigators identified the vehicle in surveillance video in the area.
The suspect was described as a thin black male with a medium complexion, standing about 6 feet tall, wearing an orange hooded sweatshirt and jeans.
A reward for information is offered in the case, and callers to Crime Stoppers at (800) SPEAK-UP can remain anonymous.
