Texas man arrested after allegedly shooting ex’s 9-year-old daughter in the head

HOUSTON (TCD) -- A 22-year-old man stands accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend’s 9-year-old daughter.
According to a news release from the Houston Police Department, on Monday, June 13, officers responded to 404 Oxford St. to a report of a shooting. At the scene, authorities reportedly found a 29-year-old female victim and her daughter suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to the hospital, where the child was pronounced deceased, police say.
According to KPRC-TV, the mother, Brittany Sorrells, positively identified her deceased daughter as Khylie Sorrells. The juvenile reportedly died from a gunshot wound to the head, while Brittany sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Police say Jeremiah Jones, who was in a relationship with Brittany that ended two months ago, was identified as the suspect in the case. He allegedly arrived at the home unprompted, argued with Brittany, and then shot the victims before fleeing the scene.
According to police, Jones was located in a parking lot in the 22300 block of Imperial Valley Drive and was arrested June 14 on charges of capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
