ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (TCD) -- Police recently arrested a Virginia man after he allegedly shot and killed his wife at his parent's house in Florida.
On Wednesday, April 17, at approximately 10:25 p.m., officers with the St. Petersburg Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at a home on 29th Ave. North. Police learned 28-year-old Devin Hansen and his wife, 35-year-old Yasmin Grijalva, were visiting from out of state when they got into a dispute, and Hansen allegedly shot Grijalva.
According to WTVT-TV, Hansen and his wife were at his parent's house during the incident. The couple had reportedly been married since 2022, but Hansen has been residing in Virginia, and his wife was staying in Michigan with their 1-year-old son. WTVT reports that Grijalva was in Florida for a work-related event, and her husband joined her.
Emergency personnel arrived at the home, but Hansen had already fled the scene in a black Cadillac CTS.
Officials transported Grijalva to Orlando Health Bayfront via ambulance, and an officer rode along. While in transit, the officer noticed a black Cadillac chasing the ambulance on the interstate.
Nearby police officers attempted to stop the vehicle, and a pursuit ensued. The Cadillac eventually crashed into big landscaping rocks in the 1400 block of 54th Avenue South.
Grijalva was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Police took Hansen into custody on charges of first-degree murder, fleeing and eluding, and domestic battery. He remains held in the Pinellas County Jail.
