CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (TCD) -- A 44-year-old woman was charged in connection with the drowning death of her 5-month-old granddaughter.
According to a news release from the Clarksville Police Department, on Aug. 6, 2021, at approximately 8 a.m., officers responded to a home on Hadley Drive to a report of an unresponsive baby. At the scene, police say the baby’s grandmother, Toni Camia, told authorities she "took a bath with the baby and fell asleep."
The baby, Angel Stanford, was reportedly brought to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
According to police, "An autopsy of the baby determined that the primary cause of death is probable drowning and a contributory cause of death was acute methamphetamine intoxication." Blood results reportedly showed methamphetamines in Camia’s blood.
On Wednesday, June 15, police announced Camia was charged with aggravated child abuse/neglect/endangerment of a child less than 8 years old and first-degree murder in perpetration/attempt to perpetrate a crime. Camia’s bond was reportedly set at $300,000.
