PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. (TCN) -- A 19-year-old was ordered to spend the rest of his life in prison for breaking into a girl’s bedroom and shooting her in the head following a fight.
The Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday, Aug. 7, that a judge sentenced Jacobean Brown to life in prison without parole plus six years for killing 15-year-old Madison Gesswein. A jury convicted Brown in July of felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Gesswein’s mother found her deceased in her bedroom on Feb. 21, 2023, at around 6 a.m.
According to the district attorney’s office, on the night of Feb. 20, 2023, Gesswein was texting Brown and two other co-defendants, Justus Smith and Yeshua Mathis, and they got into an argument. Brown, Smith, and Mathis reportedly took a loaded 9 mm pistol with an extended magazine to Gesswein’s apartment. They also allegedly brought cleaning supplies with them. Brown reportedly snuck into Gesswein’s bedroom through a window and shot her while she was on her bed.
All three suspects were arrested Feb. 22, 2023.
Fayette County court records show Mathis and Smith’s trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 9. They are both facing charges of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
