DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (TCD) -- A man and a woman from Highlands Ranch were arrested when an apparent "booby trap" they set at their home injured one person.
On March 9 at 2 p.m., the victim was reportedly "conducting business" on Ashburn Court and went to the front door of one of the homes. When he got to the door, he allegedly "heard and felt a large 'boom,'" and saw a wire tied around his leg. The man also reportedly felt ear pain and noticed his vision was altered.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said the victim was "then confronted by a white male, who he thought was the homeowner."
The victim told the Sheriff’s Office he believed the wire that caught around his leg was suspended over one of the front steps. He later went to the hospital with his co-worker.
Douglas County Sheriff’s Office detectives began investigating and reportedly "saw a similar device, as described by the victim, in the same area, on the steps leading to the front door."
On March 15, detectives obtained a warrant to search the home and found a similar device on the stairs in the back of the house. Deputies arrested Bryan Hill and Tracy Remington on charges of second-degree assault, felony menacing, and prohibited use of a weapon following the search and a "short standoff."
Their bonds were set at $25,000 each.
According to KDVR-TV, the victim is a paint salesman who walks door-to-door. The second booby trap in the back of the house reportedly had a "chemical agent" wired to spray at the person who tripped it.
