FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (TCD) -- A 51-year-old FBI agent who specialized in sex crimes against children now has a warrant out for his arrest in Florida for alleged sex crimes.
According to the Tallahassee Democrat, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest warrant for David Harris with regard to allegations that surfaced in February. The newspaper also reports there are allegations against him in Florida, Louisiana, and Texas.
WAFB-TV reports Harris was arrested in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, on June 24 and had outstanding warrants at the time in East Baton Rouge Parish and Orleans Parish. According to WAFB, in East Baton Rouge he faced charges of aggravated crimes against nature, indecent behavior with juveniles, obscenity, and witness intimidation. Orleans Parish charges against Harris included sexual battery and attempted third-degree rape.
According to WAFB, incidents allegedly involving Harris and juveniles reportedly go as far back as 2016. The Louisiana State Police and Texas Department of Public Service reportedly created a joint task force to investigate him.
The recent warrant for him in Florida relates to an incident that allegedly occurred during a July 2019 family vacation in St. George Island. According to the Tallahassee Democrat, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a statement that Harris "came to St. George Island on vacation with family and friends in July of 2019 and in this time exposed his genitalia in a lewd and lascivious manner to a then-14-year-old female."
The Tallahassee Democrat reports Franklin County Sheriff’s Office wrote in their statement, "Records were obtained from Harris' issued government electronic devices finding conversation excerpts from Harris claiming his sexual preference to underage females and admitting to his exploits," such as the alleged incident in St. George Island.
According to the Longview News-Journal, Harris allegedly exposed himself to a 13-year-old girl in Tyler, Texas, and at his home in Prairieville, Louisiana.
The Apalachicola Times reports Harris graduated from West Point and was a colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. He has reportedly been dismissed from the FBI and his Army Reserve status remains under review.
