SAN ANTONIO (TCD) -- A 23-year-old man faces a murder charge for allegedly shooting and killing his girlfriend when she told him she did not want to have a child with him.
Bexar County Court records show a criminal complaint was filed April 6 for murder, and Adam Byrd was arrested a week later on April 13 in connection with the shooting death of 22-year-old Jade Alyssa Alvarez. He is also being charged with aggravated robbery for allegedly robbing a store on April 1.
According to an affidavit cited by KSAT-TV, San Antonio Police officers found Alvarez suffering from multiple gunshot wounds April 6 at 6:30 a.m. on the 1000 block of Capitol Avenue. A witness who was with Alvarez reportedly told police that Alvarez used the witness' phone to speak with Byrd the night of April 5. The witness reportedly dropped Alvarez off sometime between 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Capitol Avenue near Fulton Avenue.
Byrd was wanted by police relating to the aggravated robbery charge, and the witness helped positively identify him. San Antonio Police located Byrd and arrested him on the robbery warrant but then asked him about Alvarez’s death.
KSAT reports Byrd allegedly told detectives he shot Alvarez because she refused to have a child with him. He reportedly used the same gun in the shooting and the aggravated robbery.
WOAI-TV reports Alvarez was the mother of a 3-year-old son.
