SAN ANTONIO (TCD) -- A 20-year-old man was caught and arrested a month after he allegedly shot and killed his daughter while arguing with the child’s mother about a gun.
Bexar County court records show Alejandro Martinez was taken into custody Sunday, May 7, on a charge of injury to a child in connection with an incident that occurred in April.
According to KSAT-TV, on Wednesday, April 12, Martinez and 21-year-old Ruby Mora got into an argument in the parking lot of their apartment complex on the 2100 block of NE Loop 410. A family member was reportedly supervising their 8-month-old daughter, Rosalinda, but went outside to check on Martinez and Mora because of the yelling.
Martinez allegedly got in his car while Mora held their baby near the car door. Mora reportedly tried to grab Martinez’s gun from his hand. After the two went back and forth pushing and pulling on the gun, it went off and hit Rosalinda in the torso. Mora was also struck in the hand.
KSAT reports a relative drove Rosalinda and Mora to the hospital, where Rosalinda was later pronounced deceased. Martinez fled the scene but was located at a motel and arrested, according to KSAT.
Mora was arrested April 18 for injury to a child.
According to Bexar County court records, Martinez violated his bond conditions. He was arrested in February on a charge of assault of a pregnant person.
Martinez’s pre-hearing is scheduled for June 6.
