LAPLACE, La. (TCN) -- A 24-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing her boyfriend during a disagreement about food.
In a statement, the St. John Parish Sheriff's Office said Tamyrihu Hubbard called 911 on the morning of Feb. 16 and said she shot her boyfriend, Joshua Jones, in the chest. Deputies arrived at the home on East Lakeview Drive and found 23-year-old Jones unresponsive. Paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.
According to the sheriff's office, Hubbard informed deputies that she and her boyfriend "had been arguing over the food that was made for breakfast," which led to the shooting. Hubbard was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder.
St. John Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre told the New Orleans Times Picayune that Jones became upset when Hubbard ate a lot of breakfast food. There wasn't much left for the rest of the family, which caused the fight because they are on a tight budget. Hubbard allegedly used one of Jones' guns in the shooting.
Tregre said Hubbard claimed the shooting was an accident, but he said investigators found "physical evidence that tells us differently."
Hubbard is in custody with bail set at $1 million.
