ANAHEIM, Calif. (TCD) -- A 36-year-old man is in custody after his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend's body was found inside an apartment.
According to a news release from the Anaheim Police Department, on Friday, March 17, at approximately 2:24 p.m., officers responded to a report of "suspicious circumstances" on the 1900 block of South Union Street, where they found the deceased victim, Mirelle Mateus of La Palma.
Officials did not specify how the victim died, but they identified Aaron Romo, the victim's ex-boyfriend, as a suspect. Police arrested him on suspicion of murder in Riverside County.
According to the Orange County Register, on Dec. 5, 2022, Romo was previously charged in a domestic violence case and was out on bail when Mateus was slain. Police said Romo had allegedly assaulted other women in the past as well.
Romo was booked into the Orange County Jail without bail and was scheduled to appear in court on March 21, records show.
The investigation is ongoing.
