NEW YORK (TCD) -- A 35-year-old woman was reportedly stabbed to death by a homeless man who followed her into her Chinatown apartment on Sunday, Feb. 13.
According to WNBC-TV, early in the morning, Christina Yuna Lee was arriving home from a Saturday night out and was dropped off at her apartment on the 100 block of Chrystie Street. Assamad Nash allegedly followed her as she walked up six flights of stairs.
According to surveillance video obtained by the New York Post, Lee opened her apartment door and Nash reportedly forced his way inside. Lee allegedly began to scream, and her neighbors called 911.
The door was reportedly barricaded when officers from the New York Police Department arrived and had to be knocked down. According to WNBC, Lee’s body was found in her bathroom, and she had suffered multiple stab wounds. Nash was covered in blood, WNBC reports.
Nash was arrested and charged with murder and burglary, WCBS-TV reports.
Police told WCBS there is no prior connection between Lee and the suspect.
According to WNBC, Nash has a criminal past that includes five felonies and three pending court cases stemming from various alleged crimes. He is allegedly homeless and most recently lived at a homeless shelter on The Bowery.
According to the New York Post, Lee worked as a creative producer for Splice, the music platform. She had reportedly lived in New York for less than a year.
Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement to WNBC, "I and New Yorkers across the city mourn for the innocent woman murdered in her home last night in Chinatown and stand with our Asian brothers and sisters today."
