GERMANTOWN, Md. (TCD) -- A 30-year-old man will spend five decades behind bars for chasing his ex-girlfriend's friend to a field and fatally stabbing him in 2019.
On Monday, July 17, the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office announced that Kyle Noble was sentenced to 60 years in prison with all suspended but 50 years. He'll also have to serve five years of supervised probation when he is released.
A jury convicted Noble last month on charges of second-degree murder and armed robbery in connection with 31-year-old Efrain Arias' slaying.
According to the State's Attorney's Office, on Sept. 15, 2019, Noble confronted his ex-girlfriend's friend, Arias, as he was exiting a car at an Extended Stay America hotel parking lot on Milestone Center Drive.
The woman who was driving Arias' vehicle told police Noble attempted to punch Arias, so he ran away yelling, WTOP-FM reports. Noble "chased" Arias to a nearby field and reportedly stabbed him.
Afterward, Noble went back to the field and robbed Arias as he was dying, according to the State's Attorney's Office.
Prosecutors argued the attack was "fueled by drug-seeking behavior and a jealous rage."
Officials reportedly found Arias "bleeding profusely," and he sustained injuries to his face and head.
WTOP reports that the woman said Noble returned to the parking lot with blood all over his face and body, and he allegedly told her, "If you call the police, I'll kill you."
According to the State's Attorney's Office, the case was initially tried in September 2022, but the jury could not reach a verdict.
At the time of the attack, Noble was reportedly on probation for an April 2017 stabbing in Frederick County.
Montgomery County State's Attorney John McCarthy said in a statement, "This is a situation where it took a number of years and continued dedication on the part of our prosecution team and the Montgomery County Police Department to ensure justice was served."
