UPDATE 3:10 p.m. CT:
A Round Lake Beach man involved in a fatal weekend shooting related to his stolen car has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Lynell P. Glover, 35, was ordered held in lieu of $1 million bail at a Monday afternoon hearing in Lake County. Prosecutors and the Lake County sheriff’s office said additional charges may be forthcoming.
Glover confronted the youths who were inside and reportedly ordered them to “get on the ground or I’ll shoot you,” according to prosecutors. A struggle erupted and Glover shot the teens, police said. One of the teens was struck by gunfire twice in the leg and once in the neck, and was pronounced dead on the scene, a prosecutor said. The other was transported to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the leg, the Tribune reports.
VOLO, Ill. (TCD) --
An Illinois man has been charged with obstruction of justice after two teenagers were shot in an alleged carjacking incident early Sunday morning.
Lake County Sheriff's investigators said Round Lake Beach resident Lynell Glover, 35, was charged with felony obstruction of justice, and was scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon.
Lake County Sheriff's deputies responded to a possible fight in progress at a parking lot in the 30400 block of Route 12 in Volo at about 2:50 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 3. Deputies found one individual shot dead at the scene, another individual with a serious gunshot injuries, and a third person with minor injuries.
Investigators said a vehicle had been stolen days earlier from the 35-year-old man at the scene, later identified as Glover. Glover somehow located his stolen sedan at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday; how he located the car was not immediately reported by authorities.
Glover reportedly chased the stolen car in a different vehicle. The stolen car ran out of gas about a mile away, and the two 17-year-olds pulled into a parking lot. Investigators said the three individuals got into a physical struggle, and one of the three males pulled out a gun, which was discharged multiple times. One 17-year-old was hit and died at the scene. The other 17-year-old was seriously injured and was later hospitalized. Lynell Glover remained at the scene with minor non-gunshot injuries.
The Chicago Tribune reports Glover had reported his 2012 Chevrolet sedan stolen from his Fairfield Road home on Dec. 30. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he located it by coincidence, if he had a tracking system onboard or if he’d left some type of electronics in the car he could trace. Glover waited on scene for deputies to arrive.
“The caller was the 35-year-old, dispatchers could hear the physical altercation in the background,” Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Chris Covelli told the Tribune.
Covelli said it was too soon to say whether the gun owner had a firearm owner’s identification card or a concealed carry license.
“There was a semiautomatic pistol recovered at the scene. Sheriff’s detectives are thoroughly investigating, they are looking for any sort of video surveillance from commercial businesses or residential homes in that area,” said Sgt. Chris Covelli, according to WGN-TV.
