SPARTANBURG, S.C. (TCD) -- Two men were arrested several days after a 51-year-old man went missing and was later found dead inside a burned-out car.
According to WSPA-TV, Leroy Palmer was last seen Friday, Aug. 4, leaving his home on Breakaway Avenue in Spartanburg and driving in his Chevy Impala.
Palmer’s mother reported him missing to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 6. Investigators from the Violent Crimes Unit spoke with two of his roommates, who said Palmer left around midnight on Aug. 4 and never came back.
Two days after Palmer was reported missing, deputies went to Sharon Road after receiving a call about a burned car with human remains inside. Officials identified the car as Palmer’s, and the coroner’s office later positively identified his remains. Surveillance footage from a trail camera nearby reportedly shows Palmer driving through a gate and stopping. A man carrying a gas can approached him, and then the car was set on fire.
Evidence at the scene, security footage, and other interviews led investigators to arrest Jimmy Lee Salters and Odell Shaquille Ferguson IV on charges of murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and arson.
The two men were reportedly together before Palmer was killed.
