JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (TCD) -- Four people were shot and three are dead after shots were fired late Saturday night during a suspected sale of a dog.
According to Jacksonville Assistant Chief J.D. Stronko, on Saturday, Sept. 23, at around 10 p.m., Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers responded to an apartment complex on the 8800 block of A.C. Skinner Parkway regarding a shooting. When police arrived, they found three victims deceased, including a 3-year-old girl.
The five individuals reportedly went to the complex to "conduct the private sale of a dog," though Stronko said it was unclear if they were selling the dog or buying it. A dispute broke out between the victims and another party, which resulted in four people getting shot. Witnesses reportedly told police they saw two unknown Black males fleeing the scene in a black sedan.
MAD DADS, which stands for Men Against Destruction–Defending Against Drugs and Social-Disorder, identified the 3-year-old girl as Kae’Lynn Marie Matthews.
Police are conducting interviews with the surviving victims as well as residents in the complex. The victims were reportedly in their 20s. The incident reportedly "possibly involved a couple of apartments."
Stronko said, "We have just as many questions as you do regarding this incident."
Although investigators were told the shooting occurred during the sale, Stronko noted, "It is unknown if this will be the final version of events."
