LOS ANGELES (TCD) -- A 24-year-old NBA player pleaded not guilty in court this week after he was charged with domestic violence and child abuse.
According to a news release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Miles Bridges, of Charlotte, North Carolina, allegedly assaulted his girlfriend in front of their two children on or about June 27 and 28. He reportedly caused great bodily injury on his girlfriend.
Upon further investigation, the D.A.’s Office said Bridges was charged with one felony count of injuring a child’s parent and two felony counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death.
ESPN reports he entered the not guilty plea in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, July 20.
According to WBTV-TV, Bridges, a Charlotte Hornets forward, was released after his arrest on a $130,000 bond. Just days before the arrest, Bridges reportedly received a qualifying offer by the Hornets.
In a statement obtained by WBTV, Bridges’ team said, "The Charlotte Hornets are aware of the situation involving Miles Bridges. We are in the process of gathering additional information. We will have no further comment at this time."
In another statement from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, George Gascón said, "Domestic violence creates physical, mental, and emotional trauma that has a lasting impact on survivors."
Gascón added, "Children who witness family violence are especially vulnerable and the impact on them is immeasurable. Mr. Bridges will be held accountable for his actions and our Bureau of Victim Services will support the survivors through this difficult process."
