DANVILLE, Va. (TCD) -- A 24-year-old woman her 22-year-old boyfriend were arrested this week after the woman’s 88-year-old grandmother was found dead in her home.
The Danville Police Department wrote in a press release officers responded to a call Oct. 10 at 10:45 a.m. on Juless Street. The person who called 911 reportedly found the resident, later identified as 88-year-old Elizabeth Morris Adkins, unresponsive inside the home. Danville Police opened up a homicide investigation into Adkins' death based on evidence at the scene, according to the department.
On Monday, Danville Police announced Lindsey Mae Johnson and Nicasio Antonio Guzman of Chapel Hill, N.C., were charged with second-degree murder. According to the department’s statement, Johnson is Adkins' granddaughter and Guzman is Johnson’s boyfriend. Danville Police Department said investigators "do not believe this to be a random act nor are any further suspects being sought."
Both Johnson and Guzman are being held at the Danville City Jail without bond.
WSET-TV, citing warrants, reports Adkins was found with her "hands tied behind her back, feet tied together and the bounds were connected in between." Adkins' head was reportedly wrapped in a plastic bag and there was blood coming from her head.
According to WFXR-TV, Johnson and Guzman reportedly told officers they found Adkins’ body inside her home, and the last time they had seen her was Oct. 4. A video allegedly shows Johnson and Guzman’s car in front of Adkins’ house just after midnight on Sunday and was there for approximately four hours. Johnson was reportedly heard knocking on the door and saying, "It’s Lindsey and Nico. It’s me, your granddaughter," WFXR reports.
Danville Police Department said Adkins' body will be transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke for an autopsy and report on a cause of death.
