IJAMSVILLE, Md. (TCD) -- A 42-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of possessing child pornography and other charges.
According to a statement, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a search at Jason Havelt’s residence on the 4300 block of Ijamsville Road on March 17. They took Havelt into custody on 16 charges, including seven counts of aggravated cruelty to an animal, child porn with the intent to promote/distribute, possession of child pornography, two counts of rifle/shotgun in possession with a felony conviction, and more.
The Sheriff’s Office said they received tips about animal abuse and cruelty in November and named Havelt as a suspect. Detectives and officials from Frederick County Animal Control reportedly obtained a USB drive that "showed photos of Havelt performing sexual acts on his dogs."
Detectives reportedly found more evidence of the alleged animal abuse after seizing Havelt’s three cellphones. While searching his other electronic devices, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office detectives allegedly discovered additional videos of child pornography, which included "acts with animals."
Havelt is a convicted felon and is not allowed to own guns, but photos found reportedly showed him with several firearms, such as rifles, shotguns, and handguns.
He was booked into the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
