LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. (TCD) -- A 47-year-old former sheriff’s deputy recently pleaded guilty to multiple child sex crimes and was sentenced to 100 years in prison.
In late 2019, the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about a "possible possession and distribution of child pornography."
As a result, Cynthia Perkins and her husband, Dennis Perkins, were arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on 60 counts of production of pornography involving a juvenile under the age of 13, two counts of first-degree rape, three counts of possession of pornography involving a juvenile under the age of 13, two counts of video voyeurism, and two counts of obscenity.
Cynthia admitted to assisting her husband in the sexual assault of an underage victim and also said she helped her husband film a child bathing. Additionally, Cynthia confessed that she had laced desserts with Dennis’ sperm and gave the desserts to her students.
On Monday, Feb. 14, 2022, Cynthia Perkins pleaded guilty to second-degree rape, production of child pornography, and mingling of harmful substances.
On Jan. 3, the Louisiana Attorney General announced that Cynthia’s husband pleaded guilty to second-degree rape, sexual battery of a child under 13, video voyeurism, mingling of harmful substances, and production of pornography involving juveniles under 13.
Dennis was reportedly sentenced by Judge Erika Sledge to 100 years "of hard labor without benefit."
Prior to his arrest, Dennis was a lieutenant with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and served there since 2002.
In a statement, Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry called Perkins’ crimes "despicable."
Landry added, "Our State is suffering from a crime epidemic, and it is going to take a strong commitment from local and state officials to defeat it. Criminals must be punished for their crimes, and victims must be supported. Today, my office sent a loud message to predators lurking: if you harm children, you will receive the justice you deserve."
