MADISONVILLE, Ky. (TCD) -- A 34-year-old woman and 30-year-old man were arrested last week after police found a baby sitting on a pile of live maggots in a stroller that contained drugs.
Hopkins County Jail records show Tiffany McCord was arrested Friday, May 24, on multiple drug-related charges and wanton endangerment of a child. Thomas Parker was also taken into custody for wanton endangerment of a child and an outstanding warrant from another county.
According to WFIE-TV, on May 24, the Madisonville Police Department got a call from someone reporting two "suspicious subjects" walking down West Center Street and pushing a stroller. The caller reportedly said the subjects appeared to be under the influence.
Officers located McCord and Parker at an abandoned house, and Parker fled. Police reportedly looked in the stroller and found drugs, drug paraphernalia, and medication for the child. A diaper bag allegedly contained a lighter, ashtray, and plastic bag. WEHT-TV reports meth was among the illegal substances found.
WFIE reports paramedics arrived at the scene to assist the child, and when they picked up the baby, police saw the child had been sitting atop a pile of maggots.
Parker, who was caught the next day, reportedly told police he is the child’s father and that he and McCord are the caretakers. He said he was supposed to clean the stroller, but didn’t do all of it.
McCord and Parker both claimed the drugs did not belong to them.
