MESA, Ariz. (TCD) -- A 43-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his father to death after he reportedly refused to pay for his groceries.
According to KPHO-TV, Mesa Police were asked to conduct a welfare check at Jason Jeschor’s apartment on Friday, April 1, because neither Jason nor his father was answering their cellphone.
The person who requested the welfare check reportedly told police Jeschor’s father went to Jason’s apartment to go grocery shopping on Thursday, March 31, but never came home. The caller also reportedly noted Jason has schizophrenia and was not on his medication.
The Arizona Republic reports police knocked on Jason’s apartment door several times, but no one answered until they almost forced entry. He reportedly told police he killed his father because he would not pay for Jason’s groceries after his debit card was declined.
Jeschor allegedly told police he stabbed his dad in the ear with a "homemade spear-like object," then used a switchblade to attack him in the neck, Arizona Republic reports, citing police.
Jeschor reportedly showed police during an interview the knife he used to allegedly kill his father, as well as blood spatter on his shoes. KPHO reports police asked Jeschor about what happened to his father, and he said, "I killed him." He allegedly thought his father and another person were threatening him.
Maricopa County records indicate he was booked on charges of second-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 7.
