SANFORD, N.C. (TCD) -- A 32-year-old middle school teacher was arrested and charged after allegedly engaging in numerous inappropriate relationships with students throughout his 10-year tenure.
According to a news release from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, on Nov. 2, the department learned about the allegations against Andrew Allen. Allen reportedly had multiple inappropriate relationships with several minor students while he worked there from 2012 through 2022.
On Nov. 14, the Sheriff’s Office said Allen was indicted on charges of statutory sex offense with a child by an adult, indecent liberties with a child, and sexual activity with a student. A few days later, on Nov. 17, Allen was reportedly arrested on those charges.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, he will be transported from the Lee County Jail to Central Prison in Raleigh, North Carolina. Allen’s bond was set at $250,000.
The Sheriff’s Office asked any parents who had students who were taught by Allen to speak with their children about possible inappropriate conduct.
In a statement obtained by WRAL-TV, the Lee County Board of Education said Allen resigned from his position on Nov. 6.
Lee County schools reportedly put out a statement that said, "We understand that there will be many questions and that our community will need time and support in order to process and respond to this terrible situation."
