TAMPA, Fla. (TCD) -- A 41-year-old man allegedly fatally shot his estranged wife’s boyfriend while his 2-year-old daughter was nearby.
According to WTVJ-TV, on the morning of Monday, Nov. 28, Miami-Dade Police officers responded to a shooting at an apartment building in the 7900 block of East Drive on Harbor Island. Outside the building, officers reportedly found Jose Aranibar-Camacho holding a gun with blood on his hands.
Aranibar-Camacho allegedly said he had shot his wife and killed her boyfriend.
Inside the apartment, officers found both the wife and her boyfriend suffering from gunshot wounds. The boyfriend was pronounced deceased, and the female victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition, according to WTVJ.
Aranibar-Camacho and his wife’s 2-year-old daughter was allegedly inside the home during the shooting, but she was not harmed.
Miami-Dade Police spokesman Luis Sierra reportedly said, "Thankfully the child is OK, and she’s fine. It is a very traumatic situation for a child to experience the incident that just occurred, but thankfully, so far she is OK."
According to WFLA-TV, Aranibar-Camacho said he was upset that his wife was in a relationship with another man, and he wanted "to take the male victim’s soul."
Prior to the shooting, Aranibar-Camacho reportedly purchased a tourniquet, QuikClot, and gauze. He also wrote a letter about his plan to shoot his wife and her boyfriend with an apology to his family, WTVJ reports.
Aranibar-Camacho was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, and child neglect charges, records show. He remains held without bond.
The Department of Children and Families reportedly took custody of the 2-year-old girl.
