WASHINGTON (TCD) -- Police arrested a 19-year-old male following a months-long investigation relating to the shooting death of a 10-year-old girl.
Metropolitan D.C. Police announced Monday, Sept. 18, that Koran Gregory was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder while armed in connection with Arianna Davis' killing.
On May 14 — Mother’s Day — police were called to the 3700 block of Hayes Street NE after receiving reports about shots fired. Responding officers didn’t see any victims at the scene but then learned a 10-year-old had been taken to a local fire station for assistance. She was taken to a hospital in "grave condition," and died three days later.
According to police, Davis was in the car with her family when a bullet struck her.
Investigators identified Gregory as the suspect after people came forward with videos and other information.
Several weeks after her death, a funeral home owner was arrested and charged after he allegedly shot and killed a 30-year-old man at Davis' funeral. The victim, Ronald Banks, was reportedly a pallbearer at the girl’s ceremony.
According to Prince George’s County Police, the director, Wilson Chavis, allegedly confronted Banks and another person with whom he has a "long-standing business dispute" because they own another funeral home. People at the funeral reportedly "became upset with Chavis and confronted him over his behavior."
Then, Chavis allegedly opened fire, killing Banks and striking a female. He was arrested following a traffic stop on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and other related charges.
