PUNA, Hawaii (TCD) -- A 33-year-old Arizona man is accused of shooting his elderly neighbor with a bow and arrow as the victim sat in a seat attached to his walker.
According to Hawaii Police, on Wednesday, June 29, at around 10 a.m., officers responded to a home on Kawakawa Street in Puna after receiving a report about a man in a wheelchair bleeding from his neck. Police found him unconscious in a walker seat in his driveway and saw he was bleeding from a "laceration-type injury to his neck."
Police and other emergency officials tried resuscitating the man and transported him to Hilo Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Hawaii Police identified the victim as 86-year-old Charles Hacker.
Officials identified Cameron Stewart as the suspect and booked him into custody. On July 1, the Hawaii County Prosecutor's Office announced they charged Stewart with second-degree murder.
Hawaii Police said in a follow-up statement that Stewart and Hacker are neighbors, and Stewart moved to the island recently from Arizona with his family. Police reportedly found a recurve bow, arrow, and archery-related items in Stewart's house.
He's being held on $1 million bond.
