LAS VEGAS (TCD) -- A 27-year-old man was arrested and charged after allegedly fatally beating a man with a brick and telling authorities he will become a serial killer if he’s released from jail.
According to a news release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, on Oct. 3 at approximately 11:57 p.m., officers responded to the 4200 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard to a report of a man down. Authorities reportedly found an unresponsive man at the scene suffering from a head wound. He was pronounced deceased by medical personnel, police said.
The victim, Christopher David, was located on the ground with a blood-covered, "large decorative brick" near him, KLAS-TV reports.
Upon further investigation, police identified the suspect as Malik Price. Someone at a Motel 8 near the scene reportedly told police the suspect attempted to sell him a gun, and Price allegedly talked about "leaving a blood trail."
Police located Price on Las Vegas Boulevard, and he was taken into custody, according to KLAS. The tread on his shoes reportedly matched a footprint by the victim’s body, and there was blood on his pants and shoes.
Price was interviewed, and when officers tired to advise Price of his rights, he started "rapping and rambling about Jesus Christ, Navy SEALs, 9/11, the Koran, and other non-relevant topics," KLAS reports. Once he was told his rights, Price reportedly said the interview was "going nowhere."
A report obtained by KLAS alleges that "Malik kept referring to Jesus Christ but would then jump to Navy SEALs and the Marine Corps being involved in the 9/11 attacks."
After the interview, authorities tried to retrieve DNA evidence, and Price reportedly said, "I did it, I’m a filthy murderer. Yup, I hit him upside with a tombstone… I saw a sign to be a violent gentleman today."
According to KLAS, body-worn camera surveillance footage from officers revealed Price saying, "I killed that man in cold blood," and "If you let me out of jail, I’ll become a serial killer."
Police said Price was booked into the Clark County Detention Center for open murder.
