VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (TCD) -- Police are searching for answers after an 8-year-old boy was shot in the head while playing video games at home.
On Tuesday, Feb. 13, Virginia Beach Police Department officers responded to a shots fired call on the 3200 block of Peele Court and found the little boy with a gunshot wound. WAVY-TV reports the victim, Landyn Davis, was hospitalized and placed in a medically-induced coma due to his injuries.
Police have not announced any arrests and are asking the public for to "secure justice for the family." Virginia Beach Police created an anonymous digital evidence portal for people to upload any videos or photos that could help investigators apprehend the suspect or suspects.
Landyn's mother, Emily Davis, told WAVY the bullet struck him in the back of the head and left him with a traumatic brain injury. He underwent emergency surgery, but the doctors reportedly did not remove the bullet because there was a risk of causing additional damage.
According to WVEC-TV, Landyn and his 15-year-old sister were at home while their parents were at a school event. The sister called their parents crying, and they rushed home. They reportedly estimate about 20 bullets struck their house.
Steven Davis, Landyn's father, said he thinks the shooters "were targeting someone in front of my house."
Davis told WVEC, "He was just playing a video game, minding his own business. Next thing you know, he’s in a damn war zone."
