Alabama man charged in the 2001 cold case death of his wife

DOTHAN, Ala. (TCD) -- Police arrested a 69-year-old man this week in connection with his wife’s death nearly 22 years ago.
According to the Dothan Police Department, Dwight Mills reported his wife, 49-year-old Sharon Mills, missing on Dec. 30, 2001, and her body was found approximately a month later. Officials located the victim’s remains in a drainage ditch in Holmes County near Bonifay, Florida, WTVY-TV reports.
Dothan police investigators exhausted all leads. Despite their efforts at the time, the case went cold.
Police recently reopened the case and reexamined several pieces of evidence. According to officers, as a result, officials obtained an arrest warrant for Dwight Mills on suspicion of his wife’s murder.
Dothan Police investigators and members of the United States Marshal Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Dwight Mills on Monday, Feb. 26, on charges of murder and abuse of a corpse.
Mills remains held on $1.5 million bond, according to WTVY.
