LAS VEGAS (TCD) -- A 30-year-old man was arrested after police found three deceased individuals inside an apartment unit as they were responding to a different stabbing call.
According to Las Vegas Police, on Tuesday, June 27, at 9:03 a.m., officers were called to an apartment complex on the 9100 block of West Flamingo Road after receiving a call about an armed man attacking people. When police arrived, they found someone inside the leasing office suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers learned the suspect, Spencer McDonald, lived with two other people in an apartment, and when they conducted a welfare check, found the three deceased victims. Police arrested McDonald on three counts of open murder with a deadly weapon and one count of attempted murder with a deadly weapon.
Lt. Jason Johansson said in a media briefing shared by KLAS-TV that the apartment leasing office asked two maintenance workers to conduct a welfare check at the unit where the victims were found deceased.
The two men had a key and walked into the apartment. Johansson said the maintenance workers "saw the apartment was disheveled" and was a crime scene. McDonald allegedly "immediately confronted" the maintenance workers and attacked them. McDonald was reportedly found holding a "mace or large sledgehammer-type instrument."
The other maintenance worker is believed to have been killed.
Las Vegas Police Department’s Homicide Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Johansson said the other two victims are a male and female who he thinks are related.
KLAS reports the Clark County Coroner’s Office identified two of the victims as 43-year-old Andrew Graden and 45-year-old Christopher Brassard. Graden was killed by blunt and sharp force injuries, while Brassard died from multiple sharp force injuries. The third victim will reportedly be identified once next of kin is notified.
Clark County Detention Center records show McDonald is being held without bond.
