CINCINNATI (TCD) -- A 25-year-old man was arrested months after his girlfriend and mother of his two children was found dead in what police initially said was a fatal drug overdose.
According to Cincinnati Police, on Feb. 15 at 2:50 a.m., officers went to the 300 block of West Galbraith Road for a deceased person call. Police determined the victim was unresponsive, and Cincinnati Fire Department officials declared her dead at the scene. She was identified as 24-year-old Deandrea Funchess.
The Hamilton County Coroner's Office reportedly determined she died by homicide.
On July 13, Cincinnati Police Department arrested Mayzio Arnold in connection with Funchess' death.
WXIX-TV reports Funchess' mother was told at first that she died from a drug overdose, but she said that cause of death "never made sense" to her.
Funchess' family had reportedly been in contact with Arnold in the months following the young mother's death so she could talk to her grandchildren. Funchess and Arnold had two children together.
Court records cited by WXIX say Funchess was actually "internally decapitated," which means she was beaten so badly that her skull separated from the spinal column.
Hamilton County Jail records show Arnold's bond is set at $750,000.
