CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. (TCD) -- Police have arrested a 34-year-old mother on suspicion of accidentally shooting her 10-year-old child to death last week.
According to a news release from the Clayton County Police Department, on Thursday, July 6, at approximately 11:21 p.m., officers responded to Grady Memorial Hospital to a report of a person shot. Medical staff told police Brittany Parks and her boyfriend brought her child to the hospital, and the victim had died.
Parks initially told officers she was unloading her handgun when it accidentally went off, and the bullet allegedly pierced through the wall and hit her child, police said. However, Parks and her boyfriend reportedly provided conflicting statements regarding the shooting.
Police developed probable cause against Parks based on her and her boyfriend's statements. On July 7, officers arrested Parks and booked her into the Clayton County Jail on charges of involuntary manslaughter, second-degree cruelty to children, and reckless conduct.
