Ex-boyfriend arrested after Detroit nurse is kidnapped and found dead in car

DETROIT (TCD) -- Police have arrested a man wanted for allegedly kidnapping his ex-girlfriend in front of the hospital where she worked and killing her over the weekend.

According to Detroit Police, on Saturday, May 13, at approximately 7:40 a.m., 36-year-old Jamere Miller allegedly kidnapped Patrice Wilson on the 4200 block of St. Antoine Street. The address matches the Detroit Receiving Hospital, where Wilson reportedly worked as a nurse. Police said Miller drove off in a black 2020 Lincoln Nautilus SUV and was considered armed and dangerous.

In a news conference Monday, May 15, Detroit Police James E. White said Miller was wearing a blond or red wig during the kidnapping. Investigators executed several search warrants, and Miller eventually negotiated his surrender with his attorney. He turned himself in to the Detroit Detention Center on Sunday, May 14, at approximately 2:15 p.m.

White confirmed Wilson was found deceased in a vehicle, but he did not elaborate on her cause of death except that she had been "viciously murdered." News outlets reported she had been fatally shot.

Wilson and Miller dated, though the two reportedly recently ended their relationship. According to White, Miller has a history of domestic violence and is a "very violent person."

Wilson’s mother told WDIV-TV Wilson was "trying to get away from him" and "knew he was toxic to her."

The Detroit Medical Center told The Detroit News in a statement, "It is with deep sadness that we offer heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and DMC colleagues of cherished nurse leader Patrice Wilson, as well as Patrice’s mother, another dedicated DMC team member. Patrice was not just a co-worker but a loving friend to many at the DMC."
