BROOKLYN, N.Y. (TCD) -- Police officers reportedly discovered human remains inside two suitcases this week while conducting a wellness check at a 22-year-old woman’s apartment.
According to WPIX-TV, on Wednesday, Sept. 21, NYPD officers went to an apartment on Linwood Street in Brooklyn’s Cypress Hills neighborhood and found the suitcases with the remains inside.
WABC-TV reports people in the building became concerned because they had not seen the 22-year-old woman for a few days, and they noticed an odor coming out of her apartment. The worried neighbors reportedly told a security guard at first, and he tried going up to the unit on the sixth floor. The woman’s boyfriend, however, allegedly prevented the security guard from coming in.
The security guard called police and reportedly said he saw the boyfriend and another man sneak out of the building. According to WABC, the guard went back upstairs to the apartment and found a meat cleaver as well as the bags in the bathroom, which was reportedly covered in blood.
News 12 reports police could not open the suitcases for 10 hours because they needed to first obtain a search warrant.
According to WABC, NYPD detectives are searching for the boyfriend. The 22-year-old woman reportedly had an order of protection against her boyfriend that was valid until the end of the month.
WPIX reports the victim’s identity has not been released yet and the medical examiner is working to determine a cause of death.
