MAURY COUNTY, Tenn. (TCD) -- A man was found guilty of murder and other charges two years after he used an antique gun to kill another person.
In a statement, the 22nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced a jury found James Adam Boyd guilty of first-degree murder and evading arrest after about an hour of deliberation.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, in October 2020, Boyd used a 30-40 Krag rifle to shoot Ted Honning once in the hip and twice in the head. The gun was reportedly a family heirloom from the Spanish-American War, which was fought in 1898. After killing Honning, Boyd reportedly wrapped his body in dog food bags and a carpet.
Investigators found Honning’s body Oct. 15, 2020.
The District Attorney’s Office said, "The jurors were, apparently, unconvinced by Mr. Boyd’s claim of self-defense."
Court records show Boyd will be sentenced Feb. 23.
