HOUSTON (TCD) --
Two bodies were found in a Houston condominium on March 10 after hostages escaped the residence and an hours-long standoff with a SWAT team ended with the arrest of a suspect who allegedly threatened officers.
Houston Police officers responded to a reported shooting at 2:15 a.m. in a condominium complex on Arboles Drive on Wednesday, March 10. KHOU-TV reports a shotgun had been fired outside the residence.
Arriving officers heard an argument inside. The officers were allegedly threatened by a man inside who reportedly told them, "If you want to go home tonight, leave my address."
“The individual inside, who ended up being arrested, started yelling at them, 'You don’t want to come through that door or you’re going to be killed,'" Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said.
Officers then saw two men climbing out of a second-story window. The men told police they were being held hostage inside along with four others.
SWAT and hostage negotiation teams were called to the scene. Hours later, two more hostages came out of the back door of the residence, KHOU reports.
At 9 a.m., the SWAT team broke a window, and Hite came out and was taken into custody, KHOU reports.
SWAT officers checked the home and discovered the bodies of two brothers, identified as Amilcar and Richard Rivera, in the second-story bedroom from which the other two men had escaped. Police said there were "no obvious signs of trauma to either victim."
Daniel Karl Hite, 26, was charged with two counts of aggravated kidnapping.
"No charges have been filed for the deaths of Amilcar and Richard Rivera at this time, as the investigation is pending their autopsy results," Houston Police said last week.
