Ohio dad charged for allegedly using cattle prod on kids as corporal punishment

SANDUSKY, Ohio (TCD) -- A 44-year-old man is being charged with multiple felonies for allegedly using a cattle prod to discipline his children.

An Erie County grand jury returned an indictment against Robert Bores on May 17, charging him with three counts of domestic violence and three counts of endangering children for abuse that allegedly occurred between approximately Feb. 1 and March 12.

According to the indictment, Bores has two previous domestic violence convictions. Prosecutors allege Bores used corporal punishment, such as restraining his children "in a cruel manner" or for a long period of time, which resulted in discipline that was "excessive under the circumstances and created a substantial risk of physical harm."

The indictment lists the three victims as 7-year-old C.B., 10-year-old O.B., and 8-year-old D.B.

WOIO-TV reports Bores, who was arrested March 13, reportedly used the cattle prod on his 7-year-old and 8-year-old children. Bores was released from jail after posting $90,000 bond.

Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth described the instrument to WOIO: "This device is probably a pole 3 feet long with two probes on either end. It has a button, and when you push the button, it delivers a shock between the two probes. Bores did make some admissions to using that instrument to discipline his children."

Sigsworth added, "It’s terrible. I don’t know what would compel someone to think they could use a device like this with kids. I’m kind of bewildered really that someone would think that would be appropriate."
