LEESBURG, Va. (TCD) -- A 31-year-old man was arrested and charged with several crimes after he allegedly shot a YouTuber who was pranking people inside a mall.
On Sunday, April 2, at 11:57 a.m., the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Dulles Town Center mall regarding a shooting and arrived within minutes. Deputies reportedly located the suspect, Alan Colie, and arrested him at 12:02 p.m. on charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm within a building.
The victim was located nearby with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System officials transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said the victim and suspect did not know each other prior to the shooting.
WUSA-TV identified the victim as 21-year-old Tanner Cook.
Cook, who is known for his YouTube channel Classified Goons, told WUSA he was "playing a prank and a simple practical joke, and this guy didn’t take it very well."
Cook’s friend was reportedly recording the video when Colie allegedly shot him. WUSA reports the bullet pierced Cook’s liver and stomach. His family believes he will "pull through" and recover.
The mall was shut down for the day following the shooting.
