EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo. (TCD) -- A man was taken into custody and faces several charges for allegedly kidnapping, raping, and holding a woman captive in his home.
On Oct. 7, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said their office was assisting the Excelsior Springs Police Department with an investigation on the 300 block of Old Orchard Road after a woman told police she had been "held against her will and sexually assaulted."
Investigators searched a home on the street and arrested Timothy Haslett Jr. for first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping, and second-degree assault.
KCTV-TV reports police said the victim was "banging and screaming on neighboring doors" at around 7:45 a.m.
According to KSHB-TV, the victim reportedly managed to escape Haslett’s home and went to neighbor Lisa Johnson’s home. Johnson said she saw the woman "hunched over" on her steps with bruises on her body, and the victim told Johnson she was being held hostage.
Johnson reportedly wanted to call police, but the woman said "he’d kill us both" if she did.
Ciara Tharp lives next door to Johnson. Tharp told KSHB her grandmother "heard a woman screaming and came knocking on the door, so she opened the door and the lady said, 'You have to help me, I’ve been raped, I’ve been held captive.'"
The grandmother reportedly ushered the victim inside and gave her food, water, and a blanket.
Tharp said her grandmother "could tell she was weak" and said the victim “didn’t have a whole lot of clothes on.”
The victim reportedly had a metal dog collar around her neck and ligature marks on her wrists.
According to court documents cited by KMBC-TV, the victim also reportedly had duct tape on her neck and was wearing latex lingerie. She reportedly told investigators Haslett picked her up in September and forced her to stay in a small room in his basement.
She reportedly freed herself while Haslett was away taking his child to school.
The victim is reportedly in the hospital and in stable condition.
Court records show Haslett’s bond was set at $500,000, and he pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
