CHICAGO (WGN) -- Michael Robinson, 23, was charged with first-degree murder after a 23-month-old boy was beaten to death on Tuesday.
Robinson allegedly punched the toddler multiple times in the face around noon Tuesday on the 4200 block of South Calumet Avenue. The boy was transported to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Robinson was taken into custody at the scene, police said. Police said he is related to the boy, but did not give further details about their relationship.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports an autopsy found the child died of multiple injuries from child abuse, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. The death was ruled a homicide.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services said it is investigating the child's family, which hasn't had previous contact with DCFS.
The Chicago Tribune reports the death happened at Robinson's address in the Bronzeville neighborhood
